Madella Hotel

The front desk woman and housekeeper were absolutely lovely, and the location was great. I got everything I asked for by speaking to the front desk. Still, I couldn’t wait to leave. My room smelled strongly of mold, the sheets felt damp from the humidity and made me itchy, and I kept checking for bugs. There were spiderwebs everywhere, scuff marks on the walls, a loose shower head that kept falling, and a tiny old TV. The phone was unplugged and wouldn’t connect to the plug. The AC switched off randomly; I eventually got it to stay on, but then couldn’t turn it off when I got too cold. I also heard loud banging at times and smelled cigarettes from other guests sometimes. I didn’t raise it with the front desk because I didn’t think they could fix these things. It felt like the place needed a total overhaul, beyond my individual room. It was not a good stay.

The room was filthy and dusty, with moldy smells and yellowed bedding and towels. There was a fire escape inside the room for the whole floor, which shouldn’t be legal anywhere. At night, the AC and four other AC units inside that escape vibrated so loudly I couldn’t sleep. I had given them a 6:30pm check-in time, but when I was just a few minutes late, they wanted to cancel my reservation. Looking back, cancellation would have spared me the worst hotel experience of my life.

The beds were dirty and awful, and the room smelled bad. I saw so many roaches in one night, it was disgusting. I felt bad energy there, heard noises at night, and the hallways had no lights.

Room 404 had bed bugs, so please be aware. Otherwise the room was decent, with a king size bed and great TV channels. The location is great too, within walking distance of the mall and the wharf.
