Sao Mai Hotel

The younger staff were polite, but the elderly couple who own the hotel were very rude. When I asked for extra pillows, the female owner snapped, “Why do you need extra pillows? Aren't two enough?” They even opened my room door to take the pillows before I had checked out. The bathroom smelled bad, its ventilation fan didn't work, some lights were broken, and the soundproofing was poor. It was a very bad experience. I’m giving it one star because of the owner's rude, unprofessional behavior. Foreign travelers should avoid booking here.

After staying here for five years, we won't be coming back. It was okay at first because we didn't expect much, but things got worse every year. The rooms are run-down and cleaned less often, with cobwebs everywhere. There’s a refrigerator but no working outlet near it. Of the three outlets in the room, only one works, and it has to serve the TV, fan, and phone. The staff show no interest in guests. They don't speak English or use Google Translate or anything similar.

The female staff member I spoke to the next day seemed to understand what had happened and offered me a refund. She was polite and helpful. If I hadn't met her, I would have canceled my later reservations. The day before, a receptionist didn't even know about the hotel booking website. I had already paid by card, but was charged and paid again. I tried using a translation app to explain, but it was impossible to communicate. She seemed to think I was a walk-in guest. The hotel also operates as a love hotel. The booking site showed a 60% discount, but that was actually the original price, as the sign outside showed. I don't like that. There are probably similar hotels nearby if you look around. There were small ants in the room, which I imagine would bother people who aren't used to them. The shower was fixed in place and only had cold water. There was dust and spiderwebs all over the room. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Even a cheap place has its limits.

The whole family had an extremely unpleasant attitude, and they charged extra to borrow another blanket. I hated the experience so much that I checked out early and paid to stay at another hotel. They really didn't live up to the saying that people from the Mekong Delta are lovely.
