Song Ngu Pisces Homestay

The saltwater pool was lovely for cooling off in the evening, and there’s a good menu and plenty of activities to choose from. Our room was clean and comfortable, and great value for money. Cindy & Matthias welcomed us warmly, and the whole team was friendly. The setting right on the river was phenomenal and so serene. At high tide the garden and roads flood, which adds to the charm and atmosphere. I’d highly recommend it.

If you’re after a relaxed stay in the Mekong Delta with great food and plenty to do, Song Ngu Riverside Homestay is a lovely choice. We came away with lifelong memories, and Cindy and her wonderful team made the stay exceed our expectations. Everyone was cheerful and keen to help, from the kitchen serving delicious food to the great bar staff. Cindy’s communication was excellent before and during our stay. She sent us the Vietnamese text we needed to find the free shuttle from the bus station, and also arranged emergency dental care in town. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. It’s some way out of town, but everything we needed for a chilled stay was there, including a good restaurant and bar overlooking the river and a decent-sized pool. Cindy and her team can arrange several trips and activities. We borrowed two bikes, and Matthias, Cindy’s husband, suggested a quiet route on the other side of the river. He explained where the small ferry was and what the crossing cost. We met locals going about their daily lives, and a family in one village even invited us to their celebration. The cookery class is well worth doing. You discuss what foods you like and want to make, then go to the market to buy fresh ingredients. Our instructor Kyn, aka ‘Pretty Boy’, was enthusiastic and entertaining. We made crispy shrimp spring rolls and red tilapia with vegetables and rice. The portions were massive, so don’t be surprised if you share samples with other guests. We also took the early morning floating market tour with Kyn. The 5am start was worth it for sunrise over the Mekong and the market coming to life. Across the six-hour trip, which started from the Homestay bar, we visited the floating and onshore markets, had breakfast in the boat at a floating cafe, and saw a larger boat where families live and work on the water. We made rice paper and rice noodles at a family-run factory, walked through a local village and plant conservation area, then had fresh fruit and jasmine tea before a gentle trip through the backwaters. Kyn was knowledgeable, kept the pace relaxed, and shared lots of stories and anecdotes. Thank you all.

We really enjoyed our couple of days here as a family. The owners were wonderful, the rooms clean and bright, and the pool was lovely. They also put on interesting tours. The local spirit tasting was one to remember.

My first visit to Vietnam was also my first stay at Song Ngu Homestay, and what an experience! Cindy and Matthias were amazing, as was Kyn. The cooking lesson and floating market tour were both such great experiences. I’ll definitely come back. Thank you!
