Bui Family Homestay

At check-in we were told they’d overbooked, then had to wait a while before being shown our room. Other people with the same room booking arrived while we waited, which was awkward. The room looked great at first, but on the second day I found cockroaches. I saw three big ones in our bed for sure, plus more on the floor. When we told the host, he asked if we’d eaten in the room or left the balcony door open. It had been open when we arrived, but we shut it, and we had no food left out. He then said there was an infestation in the basement. We also saw a rat climbing onto a room’s balcony while its door was open. The doors have no keys, so you can only lock your room from inside, and I didn’t see any lockers for belongings. The host didn’t seem concerned about the cockroaches and said they’re everywhere in Vietnam. I’ve never seen any in the rooms at other places I’ve stayed.

The location is ideal, four minutes on foot to the centre and less than a minute to coffee, lunch, or the market. Mr. Vu was very hospitable and helped us with every request, including getting better prices in town and arranging transfers to My Son. He’s a family man, highly educated, and a tour guide who cares deeply about his clients. I’d happily recommend staying with him.

Vu and his family made me feel so welcome at Bui family homestay. The room was lovely and very clean, and the beds were great. It’s a five-minute walk to the centre of town, but tucked away enough for a quiet night’s sleep. Thank you, Bui family, for making my time in hoi an amazing.
