We couldn't go onto the beach, possibly because of a conservation effort to improve conditions on this small island. Our boat anchored nearby, and we had time to swim in the surrounding water. From the boat we spotted a few monkeys on the beach, but they weren't much to see. The location was good otherwise.

The monkeys have learned that tourists feed them, and they can be very greedy, trying to get food and drinks out of backpacks. The beach gets packed with tourists because every boat tour stops there at the end.

The viewing deck had a beautiful sunset. There’s also a free boat service from the harbour. Go to the shop/bar there with a poster for monkey island resort, and they’ll call the resort to arrange your pick up. The rooms are basic and not very luxurious, and this was the most expensive hotel of my trip, so you’re mainly paying for the location on a remote island. We didn’t see monkeys at the resort, but heard the island’s owner brought them there, so they aren’t in their original habitat and can be quite aggressive. There were lots of water bottles in our room, but we only found out on the last day that they cost extra. Restaurant meals were charged to the room for payment at check out. Someone else’s meals had been added to our bill, but they removed them once we pointed it out. I think guests should sign a bill with their room number after each meal.

Every boat tour stops at the island, so it was very crowded. The bar was pricey, and a tourist got bitten by a monkey. Stay away from the monkeys and be careful!

The island has a nice beach and lots of monkeys, which is why it’s called Monkey Island. Climbing to the top gives you a lovely view of the island and Lan Ha Bay.
