Apricot Hotel

My guests had a fantastic evening at this bar right by Hoan Kiem Lake. They loved the lively atmosphere, beautiful lake view, and top-notch drinks. Big thanks to bartender Hoc for the great recommendations. Every cocktail was spot on and made the night more memorable. Definitely worth stopping in if you’re nearby!

The location was the biggest plus for me, and the lobby looked good. I also liked the quiet library on Level 9, the friendly staff, and the very spacious shower. The room, though, was dusty and quite dirty, with black marks on the walls and an old, stuffy smell. I asked to move, but was told there were no rooms because it was peak season. I understood the situation, but wasn’t happy with that answer. I was assigned a room on Level 4, which I would have appreciated some sensitivity about given my last name. I’m not very superstitious, though, so it didn’t bother me much. By Sydney standards, I’d put the facilities, cleanliness, and overall experience around three to four stars. The stay was acceptable, especially since I paid half what I paid at the Sheraton in Ho Chi Minh City.

Breakfast was the highlight, with both Western and Vietnamese choices, and the staff were very accommodating. The rooftop bar drinks weren’t very good, so I’d go elsewhere for a drink. We tried to order champagne, but they didn’t have a bottle available. The gym is small and limited, but otherwise it’s a very good hotel.

I’ve stayed here twice now and plan to return. The hotel has cozy rooms, lovely-smelling toiletries, and a colonial-style building. It’s right in Hanoi’s historic center, near a lake and beautiful pagodas, with shops and restaurants all around and that great old-city atmosphere. Service was pleasant, and the reception staff were responsive. Breakfast was excellent, and the coffee was delicious.
