By checkout day, staff were already ringing the bell repeatedly at 11:40 a.m., even though checkout was at noon and we were still packing. Another time, we went out for dinner leaving the air-conditioning and lights on, expecting to be back soon. The restaurant didn’t offer takeaway for what we wanted, so we took longer than planned. When we got back, the Do Not Disturb sign had been removed and the lights and AC were off. Staff had entered our room without permission, outside normal cleaning hours. The room was old and poorly kept, and the pillows and bedding looked very worn, as if they hadn’t been replaced in a long time. We’d booked a room with three beds and a balcony, but at the last minute they moved us to a smaller room with one double bed and one single. We’re all big-sized adults, so we asked for the room we’d booked. Instead they offered a folding bed “at no extra cost,” but it was so flimsy and uncomfortable that it would easily give you back pain. Breakfast was offered at the last minute for an extra fee, and we accepted because it was convenient. The food was basic, and although it was called buffet-style, there was never enough for everyone. Staff visibly frowned if someone took two eggs or skipped other dishes. The woman in charge of the kitchen kept watching us and frowning while we got food, which made breakfast uncomfortable. Staff were accommodating only on our first day. After that, she and the others were often unfriendly and dismissive. They asked us to cancel our Booking.com reservation and book directly so they could avoid commission fees. It felt risky since we were in another town and had never stayed with them before, but we agreed because they let us leave our luggage while we were away. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Hanoi has many better, newer options that value their guests.
