Silk Flower Hotel & Spa

The value for money is great, and we’d go back without a doubt. We’ve stayed in Hanoi twice and loved this hotel. It’s close to everything but still quiet, and the breakfast is GREAT. The staff were kind and helpful, and our room was large with a lovely bathroom.

Silkflower hotel and spa was my best stay out of the few places I tried in Hanoi. It sits on a quiet side road with no car traffic, while the main road for pickups is just a minute’s walk away. Train street, beer street, and the old quarter were all easy to reach on foot. Vicki handled check-in and was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. She gave us a map and suggestions for sights and restaurants. Kevin was great on the night shift too. He arranged breakfast for us before our early ride to Halong Bay and helped with our rooms.

After a long day out on tours, it was rough coming back to this accommodation. The rooms were cramped and small, and the biggest problem was the bathroom. There was mold on the taps, and the water temperature was hard to control, swinging between scalding and freezing. We could hear everything from the hallway and nearby rooms, including slamming doors, rolling luggage, and babies crying. Also, the hotel sits in the middle of an alley, which made it difficult for cars to get to. I don’t understand the three-star rating. To me, it deserves one.

The afternoon receptionist deserves a mention for being professional, attentive, and ready to help. The room itself was comfortable, in a good location, and very clean. The hotel was quite good in those respects. The morning receptionist was a letdown. She seemed uninterested in helping guests and did only the bare minimum. That hurt the experience, so despite the good points, I can’t rate the hotel higher.
