The smoke smell was everywhere, from the rooms to reception and hallways, even though there were no smoking signs throughout. There were other problems too: banging and drilling woke us every morning by 7am or earlier, and breakfast was brought to our room on the first day, then forgotten on the other days even though we'd paid for it. They claim it's a 3 * hotel, but the reception only had a plaque with one star. It seemed promising at first, then quickly turned into a nightmare. I'm not usually fussy, but we'd paid a fair amount and expected decent service.

We booked a superior room, but it had just one small window, and cigarette smoke came in during the morning. The room and toilet were acceptably clean, though the wall was really dirty. A loud march song woke us at 7.20AM. They also didn't bring the breakfast we'd paid for, saying the kitchen was (?). There was even a bedside price list for condoms ready to order, with quite a wide selection. I guess it's a motel, if you know what I mean. -.-"

I booked through OTA booking and got a good saving. The room looked really nice when I first saw it. I stayed two nights during my Hanoi trip in the middle of April, and I'd put it on my white list for next time.

After our long flight, we arrived at 11 pm and were told our booking had been cancelled and there were no rooms. They took us to a B grade hostel down the road. We were exhausted, so we accepted a room that wasn't clean. The next day we returned to the Royal and got the room we'd booked. Then at 2am, workers started pouring concrete in the building next to our room, waking us up. We barely slept another night, so we moved out that morning.

The staff are really cool, and the rooms are spacious. They respect your privacy, and Westlake is a nice five-minute walk away.
