The Silk Boutique Hotel & Spa

The location was really convenient, and the staff were warm and welcoming. We stayed two nights at the Silk Hotel. The rooms are small, but that felt fair for the price, and the old building was still clean and pleasant. They cleaned our room and refreshed the amenities on day two, which I appreciated. One thing to know: level 2 can be noisy. Our first night was louder than the second, though I’m not sure whether other guests were the cause.

Our plans changed, so we couldn’t stay here, but the team still made us feel well looked after. They helped arrange our Ha Long bay cruise and transfers, and their service was above and beyond, quick to reply and very helpful. They seem like lovely people, and we hope to stay another time.

I checked out after just one night. The hotel said it would refund me, but after I went through Booking, it stopped responding, so I’m left disputing the charge with my credit card company. The room seemed unsanitary and the property didn’t look properly cleaned. We heard rats in the ceiling, and there were wet patches overhead that looked like a possible ongoing leak. The TV looked melted. One of the worst hotel stays I’ve had.

The room was unbearably humid, with mould on the walls, a damp smell, and a leaky shower. Most of the lights didn’t work either, and I never felt clean while staying there. The photos looked nothing like the room, and seemed to be from years ago. This did not feel like a four-star hotel, and I can’t understand the positive reviews. It was the worst place I’ve stayed. Before the stay, I also got a phishing attempt on WhatsApp. I don’t know whether it came through the property or Booking.com. Don’t stay here.
