Caravelle Saigon Hotel

Tu at the rooftop bar was such a kind, attentive server, always smiling and checking that I had a drink and was happy. He speaks fluent English, which was a bonus, and explained Saigon and shared recommendations. I tried them all and wasn't disappointed. My...in guest services also made sure the room was just what I expected, then checked in the next day to see if I was happy. Everyone went out of their way to make the stay memorable. The hotel is beautiful, and I'm sad to leave.

The location is great for walking around the city, and the room was generally okay. Still, I expected more from a hotel I thought was five-star; the service and other things felt closer to a two- or three-star place. The front desk staff were unfriendly and uncaring, and came across as very unprofessional. They need better training in communication and customer service. The closet smelled awful, like someone who hadn't showered or used deodorant, and the towels were very old with frayed edges. At this price, I won't stay here again.

We wrapped up our Vietnam trip with two nights at Caravelle Hotel, near the opera house in District 1. The hotel is lovely and well located. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there are great dining options along with a rooftop bar that's wonderful for watching the sunset. I'd happily recommend staying here.

Great location and a lovely view from the room. Breakfast was great, too. But the room smelled moldy and gave us allergy-like symptoms. Watch out for the airport pickup: it cost about eight times as much as a Grab or another hotel's transfer.
