Felix Hotel, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, was a comfortable, practical base for my trip. The rooms were more spacious and brighter than I expected from the modest exterior and alley setting. Mine had plenty of room for luggage, lots of natural light, an electric kettle, and a reliable refrigerator. The AC was ice cold, and the shower had consistent hot water and good pressure. The alley keeps you away from the constant honking on the main roads, while still putting you close to the action. Bui Vien Walking Street and its nightlife and restaurants are nearby. Several major tour bus stations, including Giant Ibis and others serving Cambodia and regional Vietnam, are right in the alley, which made early departures and late arrivals much easier. It’s a clean, modern, no-nonsense option that gives you what you need without the high rates of larger hotels nearby. For budget to midrange travelers, the location, comfortable rooms, and reliable basics make Felix Hotel a strong choice in District 1. I’d recommend it as a base in Ho Chi Minh City.

The location worked well for us, with banks, fast food and convenience stores nearby, and it’s only a short walk from the highway. The building is older and was a little hard to find. Our room was roomy and had both hot and cold water, though the shower pressure was weak. We’d booked five nights at Felix Hotel, but only when we arrived were we told the air conditioning in our room was broken and asked to spend the first night at another hotel. That was inconvenient, especially with no warning ahead of time.

We had to move rooms twice because of an air conditioner leak. First, we carried our things up four steps to another room. The next day, they said the air conditioner had been fixed, so we had to pack everything again and move back. No one offered to help with our four large suitcases, which made an already frustrating situation harder. Never again.

We picked felix hotel because we wanted to be close to ben thanh Market and explore ho Chin Minh city at night. The room was large and well kept, with the basics like bottled water, a hair Dryer, slippers and bath towels. The receptionist was great and answered all our questions politely. The stay itself was good, but getting to the hotel wasn't: it’s less than 50 meters from the main road, yet the approach is poor. I recommend this stupid if you want to stay near ben thanh Market.

We arrived around midnight after our flight from Danang was delayed, and found a couple with a small child waiting in the lobby too. We later learned the hotel was overbooked and had no rooms for us, even though we’d booked five rooms for nine people. The receptionist tried to get us to make do with three small rooms, which wasn’t possible. After about an hour of discussion, we got four rooms instead of five. The rooms were tiny and poorly maintained, and the hotel is down a narrow road with an unpleasant atmosphere. This is more like a lodge than a hotel, and it spoiled our trip. Don't every book this hotel.
