The rooms were pretty standard, nothing bad or especially impressive. The only decent person we encountered seemed to be the bellboy. The rest was the most pathetic hotel experience I’ve had across all the countries we’ve traveled to. I checked out today, 15th Jan 2026 at 12 am, so this is all fresh. At check-in, the receptionist told us to hand over our passports and collect them at checkout, or pay a 1,000,000 VND deposit and get it back when we checked out. I asked why they wanted this, and all he said was, “it's procedure”. I had to pinch myself to believe it was really happening. We were given just two 355 ml bottles of drinking water per room, and we were three people in room 531. When we ran out, I called reception for more plain water because we had a 4 yr old kid with us. They said extra bottles, 500 ml each, cost 20,000 VND. That was surprising. How is a family of three meant to get by on 710 ml a day? The receptionist said 700 ml per day was normal, and anything more was chargeable. I shared photos of the bottle size and the invoice for the extra water because the whole thing was unbelievable. Checkout was another issue. After we handed in the room keys, they made us wait 5-10 minutes while someone checked the room and called reception. Only then did they start processing checkout. I kept telling the same receptionist we hadn’t used anything chargeable in the room, but he ignored us and refused to talk to anyone. When I asked, “do you not trust your guests?”, he answered, “no, we don't!!” That’s rudeness redefined. Honestly, the government should identify businesses like this that cheat tourists and leave guests with such a bad impression. To the owner, if you’re serious about this, you can identify the receptionist by checking the date, time and other details on the receipt number I shared. Absolutely NOT recommended!

The rooms were clean and the beds were really comfortable. I stayed five nights, and breakfast was good, with more choices aimed at international guests. The coffee was milder than at other local hotels. I’d seen complaints about rude service, but everyone treated me politely and kindly. I’m starting to wonder whether some guests are rude to the staff and feel entitled, rather than the employees being the problem.

The people and the experience at this hotel will stick with me. The service was very friendly, and the location puts you among Saigon street food, markets, shops, and just a short walk, about 3-5 minutes, from pretty much everything. If I go back to Vietnam, I want to stay here again. When I visit Saigon, I want to experience its culture and people, and this felt like the place for that.

We had six rooms for our family, four in the main building and two in the second, and every one was spacious and comfortable, with a bit of luxury. First Hotel was a great fit for our stay, especially because it’s close to the airport. The breakfast buffet had lots of tasty options, and the dining room was large and comfortable. Having breakfast there each morning meant we didn’t need to figure out where to eat. Restaurants and shops nearby were handy too, especially for last-minute shopping before our flight back to the U.S. We’d happily return for the convenience, comfort, and service, at least until the new international airport opens and we need to find somewhere else nearby.

Nothing was especially bad, though nothing stood out as great either. The building feels a little dated. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable, and the staff are nice. Breakfast is decent, but I wouldn’t call it great.
