Home Away Serviced Apartment- Ky Con

I just finished a long stay at Ky Con Home away apartments and enjoyed it very much. The room price is around half what a good hotel room costs, and I can recommend Home Away as a secure base for exploring Ho Chi Minh City. The reception staff are friendly and helpful, and Mr Long is the person to see about long-stay arrangements. My 29-square-metre Queen Studio was comfortable and clean. Free cleaning and changes of sheets and towels are provided once a week. Home Away apartments are in a lane among local Vietnamese homes, away from the road, so it's quiet. Ordering Grab restaurant food is convenient, and it's a 10-metre walk to the road to meet your Grab taxi. You can go wherever you want, with most fares into the heart of District 1 only 35 to 45 K dong, about 4 to 5 minutes away.

The staff were all very friendly, polite, and helpful, and communicating with Mr Viet was easy. We stayed for a week in August, two parents and one small child, in a first-floor standard studio. They provided an extra mattress and blanket so we could all sleep comfortably. The room felt spacious, with plenty of shelf storage so we could move around without bumping into our luggage. Two windows let in enough light, though the view was just the wall of another house. The kitchen was full size, with a big fridge, kettle, microwave, electric stove, and some utensils. There was only one plastic chair. The bathroom was big enough, but everything got wet when we showered. A simple glass partition or even a curtain would help. The wet floor was very slippery, and I had a bad fall. The hanging rack nearly came off the wall, and the towels were very small and old. Drinking water and laundry were free. The building entrance can look unattractive. Ký Con isn't a tourist area, it has motorbike spare parts shops, so it looks dark and smells oily. We had to walk farther down the street to find decent restaurants and convenience stores, navigating the nonexistent pavement because motorbikes were parked there. The room itself was good enough, but I wish I'd picked a better location, such as Đặng Thị Nhu or Minh Khai.

The listing was misleading. The room I paid for clearly showed a washing machine, and there's even a spot where one seems to have been. Staff said my “budget” room didn't include one, and wouldn't let me use the laundry downstairs.

I checked the room once before booking and decided to stay right away. I couldn't have been happier with my choice, and by the end I felt a bit sad to leave “Home”. If you want to stay in the heart of Saigon for a few days or weeks and have the comforts of home, this is the place. Danh was my contact throughout the stay and was the best, always accommodating. The service was amazing, and the other staff were lovely and so kind. The location is excellent, close to the center with everything you need within walking distance. It's easy to get to D3, D10, D4, and farther areas, while being away from the big, noisy main roads. The neighborhood is calm and chill, great for sleeping. There were quite a lot of ants in the kitchen even though we always cleaned up after cooking. I guess that may be hard to avoid in a hot climate. I strongly recommend Home Away.
