The beds are enormous, easily big enough for two or three, and breakfast and tea are included. Bathrooms could be cleaner, though Kiki seems to manage the place on her own. The vibe is relaxed, and the owner does her best. It’s close to the busy party street, about a 45-second walk, but far enough away to be quiet by midnight. There are plenty of reasonably priced food options nearby for late-night hunger. One warning: the hostel gets overbooked fairly often, and guests with reservations have sometimes been turned away. I had no trouble myself, but getting there early may help make sure your room isn’t reassigned. The one-star reviews seem to come from people this happened to. I had a good stay.

Breakfast was included, and the bed was comfortable and roomy, with air conditioning in the room. It was pretty clean, too. My boyfriend and I stayed for three days and liked the hostel. We booked a bed for two in a four-bed room, with each bed meant for two people, and it was very good for the price. The only awkward part was the woman cooking breakfast. She seemed unfriendly and spoke to herself in Vietnamese in a way that didn’t feel very friendly while I was eating. I also saw her leave some guests without bread. On our first day, a man was cooking and had everything organized, but we didn’t like how the woman behaved toward us in the kitchen.

I wouldn’t recommend Kiki’s hostel Saigon. The listing on hostel world gave a false impression of both cleanliness and how much space there is. At €10 a night, it felt worth more like €3. The bathroom lights didn’t work, and although we arrived too early for the beds to be made, we came back much later to find they still hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guests. The woman running the hostel also wouldn’t honor the hostel world price I’d booked at and paid a deposit for. She tried to charge us €11.50 per bed instead. The towels she gave us were tiny, like dish-drying tea towels. The whole place was advertised inaccurately.

The shower was filthy, with hair and dirt all over the floor, and it didn’t look like it was cleaned often. My friend needed medical attention, but when we asked for help, none came. We also found the owner very difficult to communicate with, even using translate, and we had to move rooms several times because things seemed so disorganized. From what I hear, Kikis house has new management, so it’s quite different from the reviews here. It’s in what may be the loudest part of HCMC, with party music going late, and many rooms didn’t have AC. There wasn’t much space to socialize either, since the rooftop area now seemed to be where someone lived. After six months of traveling, this was one of my least pleasant hostel stays.

We booked for New Year, but the woman managing the hostel was very rude and wouldn’t answer even simple questions. Maybe she was overwhelmed, but telling me, “Don't talk with me,” made a very poor impression. We canceled right away and went somewhere else, without worrying about losing the Hostelworld deposit. The hostel is right on the walking Street, near good restaurants, but there’s nowhere to park a motorbike. I’d suggest staying somewhere else if you want a good Vietnam experience.
