Koniko hotel

We booked four rooms and found them clean, quiet, and comfortable, with strong shower pressure. The hotel is right in central District 1, close to Bui Vien Walking Street, plenty of food stalls and restaurants, and 7-11 and Circle C. Ms Nga was kind and quick to help with our needs. She also helped us with the Cu Chi Tunnel, and the hotel tour service seemed much cheaper than booking online. Thanks, Ms Nga, for making our time in Ho Chi Minh City more memorable. I’ll definitely stay here again.

The room itself was decent, and the location is hard to beat if you want to be right by Bui Vien Street. But we were on the 4th floor and there’s no elevator, so hauling ourselves up the stairs got old. The bathroom was clean but disappointing, and complimentary water wasn’t provided. Handy for night owls, though probably a bad fit if you dislike stairs.

I recommend the hotel. It’s clean, in a central area, and the service is good. While I was waiting to check in, I saw a woman at reception with what looked like four children. I later learned she was caring for two children who weren’t hers, which seemed to put a lot of pressure on the family. The kids were playing, then the oldest hit the little girl hard on the back. She froze beside me, and I told him to stop, but he didn’t listen. He took off his shoes as if to hit her. The father, who I later learned was only a worker, came out and didn’t seem to mind. The mother seemed lost in her own world, maybe under a lot of pressure from life. I don’t know why people have to see things like that. I spoke with her for about five minutes and saw her smile, which was beautiful. She seems nice. I hope the mother, who is the manager, can get some time to relax. She takes care of her own children and others too. The hotel is quiet as well.

For a budget stay, Koniko is good value in my opinion. The place is a bit old, but the rooms are more than okay for the price and location. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, and the internet and shower were decent. Staff were friendly and ready to help, and there’s laundry just down the stairs.
