Hai Duong Guesthouse

We stayed three nights in August 2020 and ended up staying longer than we had intended. Hotel Hai Duong is about a two-minute walk from the bus terminal. For a low price, the rooms were acceptable and clean, and had a fridge. The fifth-floor view was nice. Staff didn't show much hospitality: the receptionist didn't look up, though housekeeping brought fresh towels two hours later. It operates at a professional level. Be aware that some comments here seem to describe another nearby place.

After more than eight hours riding a motorbike through Vietnam with a friend, we needed somewhere affordable for the night. I wish we'd kept looking. The clerk seemed completely unmotivated and acted as if we were interrupting his TV watching. The rooms were only semi-clean, though okay for one night. At 6 am, impact drilling started right below my room. I got the impression it was to drive away their two unwelcome foreign guests. The vibration was so strong that a window fell out of my room onto the roof of a neighboring building. Luckily nobody was hurt. I left as fast as I could, before they could blame me, and didn't look back.

The rooms could have been cleaner, and it's an older hotel, but the water pressure was good and the TV okay. In person, they quoted me more than the online booking price, then offered to match it. It could have been a solid 3 star stay if the staff hadn't been so loud inside. After a 10 hour motorcycle ride, I wanted to sleep in, but cleaning staff woke me rudely at 7:30 by shouting and dropping things to get people up so they could clean.

The receptionist gave my passport to an unknown man who wanted to check me because he was afraid I had covid. The man wasn't even a police officer. I've never had anything like that happen before. I took my passport and left without staying.
