Hajime Homestay

The owners took such good care of us, and I can’t recommend this homestay enough. Hajime was built from the ground up by a husband and wife team about two years ago. They have a great story behind why they made it, so ask them about it. It’s about 10 minutes from the city by Grab or motorbike, surrounded by beautiful temples. If you want a break from the city bustle, Hajime is a great fit. The rooms and cafe have a carefully done Japanese style, with tatami mats, futon beds, and zaisu floor chairs. We weren’t sure about sleeping on a futon, but slept really well from the first night of our five-night stay. They can provide an extra futon layer if needed, and everything is imported from Japan. Breakfast is homemade and vegetarian, with something different each day. There was a great range of local Vietnamese and Japanese food, all yummy and healthy. Filtered water is available all the time to refill and take to your room. We had a room with a bathtub, which was fantastic, and they have a Japanese toilet, iykyk.

The staff were lovely, and I’d highly recommend the matcha. It’s a beautiful homestay with a Japanese theme, serving Japanese drinks like tea and matcha. They also rent kimonos for pictures. I can’t recommend this place enough.

I extended my stay twice because I enjoyed it so much. The food was delicious, and the owners and staff were warm, attentive, and always willing to help beyond what was expected. This is a peaceful place in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by temples, with hardly any tourists around. It felt calm and harmonious.

The owners really made our two nights in Hue. A storm hit while we were out, and they checked on us and helped with everything, from arranging a car to making sure we could get dinner as restaurants were closing. They treated us like family, so we felt at home. The rooms and the rest of the homestay are beautiful, with Japanese style done well. We couldn't recommend it more.
