I booked Indochine Hotel from 3/11/25 to 6/11/25. It's clean, tidy, and safe, and probably the best hotel in town, though a bit overpriced. The daytime female receptionist speaks great English and is a lovely young woman, very helpful and caring. The other staff were polite and considerate. The buffet breakfast, included in the price, is a must or you'll be hungry for the rest of the day. There are plenty of Vietnamese and foreign choices, and the kitchen staff are excellent. Breakfast runs from 6am to 9am. My main complaint is that the restaurant is closed, so there's no food or evening meal at the hotel. There are very few cafes or restaurants near the hotel, and Kon Tum city has a real lack of places to eat in the evening. It's hard to find food around the hotel, and the quality is poor, even though Vietnam is famous for its food. Kon Tum has hardly any decent cafes or restaurants serving proper Vietnamese food, which is very disappointing. The nearby coffee shops around Indochine Hotel serve what I'd call the worst coffee in Vietnam. The lack of tourism experience is obvious. The Central Highlands are lovely for sightseeing, but the food is basic, overpriced, and tasteless. Tourists stay one or two nights at most, then leave. People come to the Central Highlands to visit Mang den, including Vietnamese tourists and the occasional foreigner, but they can't stay in Kom Tum. That makes it hard for the so-called city to develop as a tourist hotspot. This is a problem for Kon Tum and the Vietnamese and federal governments to solve.

It's very affordable, and I found out they have breakfast ready. There aren't many dishes, maybe five, like you'd see at a five-star hotel, but the cook makes them really well. That was good enough to add a star. The place itself feels poorly maintained, with everything looking old and worn under a yellow tint. The hot water is weak, the equipment is old, and some items can't even stand on their own anymore. It feels like stepping back 25 years to the 90s. It could be a nice place with a good location, but it needs renovation and maintenance.

The rooms are large and the beds comfortable, but for the price I'd go elsewhere. It seems to have more style than function. Water from the shower runs across the floor toward the toilet and bathroom door because there's no drain hole there. The tiles get so slippery that the bathroom feels dangerous. There's a glass bathroom wall, so you can see your roommate on the loo. Maybe some people like that. Breakfast buffet was mediocre, and we had to argue with staff before they'd open the balcony door so we could use it.

There was noisy building work during the day, and the room was dirty with a broken toilet. Never again at this hotel.

Nearby buildings played loud dance music with heavy bass until midnight. The staff weren't very friendly or accommodating, either. The bathroom smelled very bad, and the shower drain was on the other side of the room, so water ran across the floor and pooled in places. It felt very unsafe.
