Mint Homestay had apparently been demolished and rebuilt, but I found no notice saying it had moved or stopped operating. When I messaged to book, they accepted the booking, then sent me to a less visited guesthouse called Hoa and took a commission. The person who received my deposit was the Mint Homestay owner, but they didn’t clearly explain what was happening. I avoid guesthouses when I travel because I’m uncomfortable in them, and I felt tricked into this one. By the time I’d paid the deposit, moved my luggage, and arrived, it felt too late to argue. The owner was stubborn until I called for directions. The place is deep in an alley, and even though I’d told them when I’d arrive, they couldn’t give directions. The owner said they were at the beach and only called the guesthouse owner to pick us up after I insisted. The guesthouse was unsanitary: dirty sheets and a dirty mattress on the white bed. When I asked questions, they snapped at me and cursed at me as if I were their second parent. The owner is a middleman who takes a commission and disappears. There was no apology for the deception, even at the last minute. It was a terrible experience for a healing trip. The homestay may be under construction and the facilities might improve, but the owner's character and service were awful. I was careless not to check Google reviews first, where there were many one-star reviews. I’d rather pay a little more for quality than spend a mid-range price on a terrible place. Choose hotels on the main road instead, where the views are nice and places are clean with good service. Don’t be tempted by homestays like this.

The communication was okay, but hygiene was a serious problem. I booked three nights and left after just one to stay somewhere else. The room was damp and moldy, the sheets were dirty, there were ants and mosquitoes in the bedroom, and the bathroom was very dirty.

I’m not an easygoing traveler. If a place is dirty or the host has a bad attitude, I’m ready to leave and find somewhere else. I came across Mint by chance online and wasn’t sure at first, but once I arrived, I found it quiet and clean. The beach is about a 120-meter walk away, and it’s near the market, so getting food is convenient. The host is friendly, listens to guests, and takes their feedback on board. Ten out of ten. If I get the chance to come back, I definitely will!

It’s generally a safe area, and people park their cars on the street without trouble. If you come by car, though, you’ll need to do that too. There aren’t many rooms, which keeps things quieter, and the prices are reasonable. The landlady is pleasant and easygoing. The rooms haven’t had much investment since renting them out is just extra income for the owners, but you can switch rooms if you don’t like yours.
