Phong Nha Hillside View Bungalow

We spent two weeks here and had a fantastic time. The bungalow was spacious and clean, with comfortable beds, and each morning we got a delicious breakfast made to our choice. Ngoc and Tuan were caring, friendly owners who made us feel part of their family. Having a motorbike from the homestay for our whole stay gave us the freedom to explore the lovely countryside around Phong Nha and the coast at Dông Hói. We’re already looking forward to seeing Ngoc and Tuan next year.

The room was lovely, and I really appreciated the bathroom layout: the shower is separate from the toilet, so no wet feet during a nighttime bathroom trip. Nights were very quiet apart from some frogs. The owner was helpful and friendly, and her English made everything easy to arrange. We ate dinner there twice, used the laundry service, and were able to clean our muddy shoes after the cave and jungle trek. We also rented a scooter, and when we ran into trouble on the road, they came to help. We stayed two nights and would definitely recommend it.

The bungalows themselves are lovely and spacious, but the rest of our experience was disappointing. We were repeatedly offered restaurants and services from the first day. Later we realized some suggestions were tied to businesses connected with the same management, which made the offers feel more like sales than genuine help. We accepted the motorbike rental despite its above-average price, but the fuel and speed indicators stopped working soon after we set off. The explanations didn’t fix the problem, leaving us to check fuel with a wooden stick and estimate our speed through Google Maps while riding somewhere unfamiliar. Breakfast was the biggest issue. The quality wasn’t adequate, and a simple drink was replaced without telling us. On top of that, we encountered a serious hygiene problem and spoke to the owner about it. The accommodation is good, but the management and services need more transparency, attention, and care for a relaxing stay.

The host was amazing, spoke English, and was always ready to help. After walking around town, I couldn't see anywhere else I'd rather stay, and I can't believe this place isn't fully booked. We honestly hadn't expected such a good find. The rooms are clean and well kept, the food is tasty and good value, and the pool is spotless.
