Phu Huy Guest House

The staff at HS Beach House were the kindest and most helpful I've ever met, and the view from the window was breathtaking. Some beaches are a bit farther away, but that wasn't a problem for me: step onto the terrace and you're already at the beach, with the sea just a few meters away. Everything felt perfect. I loved my stay on Phu Quoc and highly recommend the place.

Getting there was difficult. The house is down a very small unpaved alley with no car access, and it would be hard to carry big luggage from the main street. Our Grab driver was willing to take us in, luckily. When we arrived, the owner wasn't there and couldn't be reached at first. It took a while to contact them, and the driver had to call and ask them to open the gate. Inside, the floor was sticky, no slippers were provided, and the kitchen sink smelled unpleasant whenever we used it. The AC wasn't working when we arrived, though the owner fixed it while we were out. It should have been checked beforehand. The induction cooker was broken, so we couldn't cook, even though having a kitchen was one reason we booked.

The floor was sticky, the kitchen cabinets were disgusting, and there was a fishy smell. Both the stove and aircon were broken, and the road was flooded. The alley is very narrow, so cars can't get through, and the area is dirty. Google had the wrong location attached, which took us some time to sort out, and the host was slow to answer our calls. Don't stay there or trust the pictures.

The woman was very nice, though she didn't speak English, and she arranged an airport transfer for us for 200,000 VND that worked out well. We left after about an hour and a half without staying overnight. The view from the room was generally nice, and the fishy smell wasn't too bad for us, but the room looked terrible and run-down, nothing like the listing. We'd read some bad Google reviews and tried to cancel, but we were too late and had already paid the full amount. Having now seen the place, I understand those reviews. You couldn't lock the room properly, and there were mosquitoes everywhere, including many in the bathroom. There were also ants in the room, the bathroom door was very dirty, and although the toilet was clean, it smelled rancid. The beach was partly covered in litter, though I personally didn't mind that too much. The bathroom had a roof instead of being open as shown in the photo, and the supposed plants were actually a plastic rug on the floor. There was mold starting on the bathroom ceiling and another wall. Mirrors and windows were streaked or not cleaned, the outside of the bathtub was filthy, and the walls were damaged and dirty, with very dark corners. There was an unpleasant smell near the kitchen. The Grab driver couldn't reach the property because the alley was too narrow, so we carried our luggage to the main road. It was doable, but being picked up right outside with suitcases would have been more convenient. I would absolutely advise against booking here and won't return.
