The Lam Homestay

My health got worse while I was here. The first room wouldn’t lock. In the second, the water pressure was low and water dripped through the ceiling from the third floor, so the bathroom never dried. I changed rooms again, but the pressure was still low and the basin was blocked. I cleared it, then found the drainpipe leaking and the bathroom stayed wet. The damp led to foot fungus, and the walls were dusty and moldy. In the fourth room the basin was blocked too. There was no shower, just a bucket and ladle. The bathroom door frame was warped and rotten, so the door wouldn’t close. There was also a dead rat under the bed that looked as if it had been there for years. No desk, kettle, coffee, or drinking water, and the TV wasn’t connected in any of the rooms. Lowest cost, lowest quality.

Staying with Lam and the family gave me a real Vietnamese experience. Lam speaks good English and took me around the island. I can’t recommend the place enough, especially for the quality you get for the price.

The owner's family were so friendly, and they even took me fishing!
