The food at the restaurant was really good, and the sister who cooks was very sweet. Taking her cooking class was the best part of my stay. The location is also convenient for the main hiking trails. But the price felt totally unjustified: I paid $28 after the discount she said she was giving me for one night in a Deluxe room with Mountain View, and the mattress was stiff and uncomfortable. I paid the same in Halong for a five-star hotel with a fancy breakfast, and other homestays charge much less. I also had to shorten my booking by one night, and the hostess kept pushing me to stay, making it hard to say no and leaving me uncomfortable.

They welcomed us late at night and managed to arrange a taxi from the center at the last minute. The staff were really kind and friendly, and the views from the accommodation are incredible.

My friends and I found the landlady rude, selfish, and focused on money. She kept trying to sell us tours or other things to fit our itinerary. She even swore explicitly about another traveller in Vietnamese, apparently knowing that the traveller couldn't understand her. From what I saw, most reviews here may be fake because the landlord gives free drinks to people who leave a good review. I'd suggest staying elsewhere. A landlady at a nearby homestay was welcoming even though we didn't stay there. She rented us motorbikes at fair prices, suggested things to do without prying for money, and cooked us a big dinner near closing time.

The family went out of their way to make us feel at home, and were so friendly. We loved the distinctive location, with wonderful attractions nearby and a family who knew the local customs so well. Amazing people and place, we had a great stay at Ta Van Family Homestay.

We were lucky to get moved into a room with a mountain view. The place was quiet and clean, and it's close to the rice fields. From there you can reach plenty of hikes and activities without needing a car. Our host helped arrange transport and a trekking guide. A great stay in Ta Van.
