Breakas beach Vanuatu, you wowed us from the start. The place has a tropical feel, and the people were so welcoming. The staff and service were unmatched, the facilities beat our expectations, and the food and drinks kept us happy and laughing the whole stay. Everything was exceptionally clean. We loved going from the colorful infinity pool straight onto white sand and into blue water full of colorful fish and coral. A romantic getaway with soul satisfying experiences, highly recommend. Thanks, Breakas beach resort. Love, Justine and Tami. We’ll be back!

We came away feeling rested and grateful. Every staff member was welcoming and kind, and they went out of their way to make us feel at home. Breakas Resort felt like a little paradise, with a beautiful private beach where we relaxed and snorkeled, spotting lots of colorful fish just off shore. The adults-only setting kept things wonderfully peaceful. We also loved the food. The kitchen paid close attention to detail, and Head Chef Paolo’s dishes were consistently fresh and full of flavor. Cynthia was warm and welcoming too. We’d definitely return and recommend Breakas to anyone visiting Vanuatu.

There was plenty to like: the resort is child free, the food was great, and the cocktails were well made. Staff were friendly and very helpful when I needed to go to hospital. Ernest was especially great and helped a lot during our stay. If you’re polite, you get good service back, and the negative reviews about him don’t reflect my experience. Beach chairs and umbrellas are set along the shore. The snorkeling from the beach was decent, and we saw dugongs and turtles. The currents can be strong unless the water is completely calm, so know your abilities and take responsibility for your own safety. Don’t overestimate yourself or expect fins to get you out of trouble and avoid needing other guests to rescue you. When our roof leaked over the bed in the middle of the night and soaked the mattress, we were moved quickly. A lot of the pool area is taken over for dining every day at 5, leaving little space to use the pool. It felt like dining was given priority over guests using the facilities they’d paid for. On event nights and buffet dinners with shows, you can’t use the resort facilities without paying over $150 AUD for dinner. We heard from many guests who went to restaurants for New Year’s and came back later only to be told to stay in their rooms for the rest of the night. They were resort guests who had paid to use the facilities throughout their stay, so having access cut short or removed was disappointing. We spoke with six couples who stayed in their rooms on New Year’s. The extra $70 fee didn’t seem fair on top of an already decent nightly rate. The fares along the far fence aren’t private. The fence is see-through, and it borders a busy track used by locals. People from outside the resort were also sitting on balconies when guests staying in fares near the locals’ swimming spot returned. On our last night, someone climbed onto our fare’s roof and tried to break in through the shower. My husband woke up, switched on all the lights, including outside, and the person was deterred. Keep the bathroom doors locked and valuables in the safe. My husband only told me after we’d left because he knew I’d be scared. There are guards, but they can’t be everywhere all the time. Another uncomfortable moment was seeing large groups of drunk people drinking cruisers, beer, and wine in the breakfast area at 7am on a non-holiday, even though they weren’t staying at the resort. The music was way too loud, though it was turned down to a nice level over the last couple of days. We understand New Year’s was loud and appreciate the party, but sometimes it was too much early in the day.

Breakas was probably the best part of our Vanuatu trip. I didn’t expect it to be this good: the pool sits right by the beach, and the cute bungalows have outdoor showers. The grounds and plants are really well kept. Breakfast is a little basic, but the fruit was excellent.

The staff were helpful and polite, and the place has a laid-back feel with plenty of good live music. There’s no shopping to speak of. The beach is fine, though you’ll want footwear in the water because of coral fragments. If a good night’s sleep matters, go in winter, since there’s no air conditioning anywhere.
