The pool was easily the best part, and Jennifer, one of the room cleaners, was the only staff member who spoke with us. She was genuinely helpful. We also discovered kayaks were available, but only in the final two days because nobody mentioned them and they weren't listed in the hotel book. The room looked nothing like the crisp white photos online. The bed was hard, the sheets scratchy, and stagnant water kept gathering around the balcony edges. The shower barely flowed, the toilet hadn't been properly cleaned, and the sink splashed water whenever we turned on the tap. Even the ceiling fan and light had a mind of their own. We reported it and were told someone would check, but it was never fixed because, apparently, they watched it and nothing happened. Some nights we switched the light off five or six times before giving up and sleeping without the fan. One day, while waiting for a tour, we watched it switch itself on and off three times. The balcony light didn't work either. The stairs were dangerously slippery with wet feet, and there was no elevator. Breakfast came with the stay, but there were only two choices, eggs on toast or fruit and cereal. By day ten we could barely stomach either. The bread started out thick, then became small, thin slices that were always burnt. I thought the price seemed fair at first, but after ten nights I wished I'd booked somewhere else. For that premium rate, the experience was very mediocre.

The little beach beside Banyan beach bar was a nice bonus, and the view was amazing. Shops and restaurants are close by. The hotel is dated, with some mould in the bathroom, but it was still very clean and tidy. Thanks to Leesong, the cleaning lady, for making our stay comfortable, and to Marika at reception for being so resourceful and informative about the town and hotel. Bring aqua shoes when you visit Port Vila.

We used to eat at the Bistro regularly, but after yesterday's lunch, 31/7/24, I won't be going back. There were four of us among 16 seated guests, and even after an hour we were still waiting. The staff didn't seem concerned about how long it was taking. The kids' menu listed fish and chips for VT1250. Since the fish was basa, or catfish, I asked to swap it for better fish. They charged the full price for the basa that wasn't served, then added VT700 for the poulet fish. That left us with a disappointing kids' meal costing VT1950 (NZD27.00). The lunch special included no lime juice because it wasn't available, and we weren't offered any other option. With the slow service, high price, and very average food, I won't continue dining there.

I ordered the nasi goreng, and it was spot on, with a generous serving. There was a good range of dishes at surprisingly reasonable prices, even with the elegant feel of the place. Chantilly's is tucked away, but it's easy to reach in a busy part of town and there's plenty of parking. Inside, it's spacious and chic, with comfortable seats and a relaxed, cozy atmosphere that works for lunch, dinner, or meeting friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, knew the menu, and could offer suggestions. A great place to catch up with friends or have a romantic meal, with good food and service at an affordable price.

Friendly, great service from the staff, as seems to be the case everywhere we visited in Port Vila. The location's handy, just a short walk to the shops. Rooms were tired and very average, and could use renovations, though the bed was comfortable and the shower worked okay. Breakfast was basic but good, and the coffee was good too. Still, the room rate wasn't justified.
