Albertinia Hotel

We loved the courtyard and the original Ladies Bar, and it’s great to see a family-owned hotel investing in its rooms. Ours was freshly refurbished, with an en-suite shower and clean linen. At Die Ou Kombuis, the old photographs of the town, memorabilia, huge fireplace, and old-world feel made the restaurant especially endearing and authentic. The service was enchanting, and all three of us ordered Eisbein after our trip from Knysna. It was the best restaurant meal we’ve had in ages; one of our group even said it beat meals he’d had on international travels. Congratulations to the Albertinia Hotel team on its 125th birthday this coming weekend, and thank you for such a lovely experience. I’d recommend it.

The staff really go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and everyone was so friendly. The food was fresh, really good, and came in big portions. Everything was clean and neat. It’s a beautiful historic hotel.

The room was awful and the service, apart from the barman who did his best to help, was terrible and offensive. We’d booked and paid for the night, but left anyway. We checked out in the late afternoon and drove home rather than stay another minute.

We drove over from Hartenbos, about 50kms away, for Sunday lunch, and it was worth it. The meal was traditional Afrikaner food, and the wait staff were friendly. We didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t say anything about the rooms. Albertinia has a lot of small-town charm. We’ll visit again.
