The Regal Inn in Ballito worked out really well for an affordable, clean and comfortable stop before we travelled to our destination the next morning. We landed in Durban in the evening, and the king-size bed was super comfortable. The room felt modern and clearly had been refurbished recently. The bathroom was small but neat, and there’s seating in reception where you can work while waiting for transport. It’s close to two shopping centres, one a large mall and the other an outdoor-style centre with lots of places to eat and a great vibe, especially in December. There are no lifts, so bear that in mind with heavy bags. If you use a wheelchair or have a pram, you may want to request a ground-floor room. I’d stay here again if I didn’t need to be on the beachfront, or if I wanted somewhere cheaper that was still decent.

The prices and location are clear pluses, but cleanliness needs a lot of work. There’s no lift either, so be prepared to carry heavy bags upstairs.

It’s a nice place for a week, and otherwise fantastic. Staying longer gets a bit cramped, since you need to bring more clothes and the cupboards are very small.

I needed somewhere at short notice, and I have quite a few things to mention. First, a special thank you to the barman and the ladies at reception. You were friendly, helpful, and gave good service. The place has potential to be a cute, affordable boutique-style hotel, but these issues really affected the experience. The shower in our “newly renovated room” leaked all over the floor. There was no hairdryer, safe, or even mats. I spotted cockroaches in the dining area and brushed it off, then woke up in the middle of the night to find roaches all around the fridge in our room. The bathroom extractor fans didn’t work, and the beds had holes or dents. The pillows were rock hard and lumpy from the laundry. The room and floor had been freshly painted, probably that very day, because we even came out smelling of paint. If and when funds allow, please fix the issues above.
