The Resting Place Guesthouse

Our stay in the Paradise Room was one of the most unpleasant rooms I've had across South Africa. It looked completely different from the photos on the website and Booking.com. The room was old and deteriorated, not clean, and the aircon didn't work. Even though we booked ahead, the fridge hadn't been switched on. The whole place needs a lot of care. The family traveling with us also found their room dusty and unclean, and there was no hot water.

The location was nice, with the braai area right outside the door and the pool a short walk away. At reception, one of the two women was friendly and helpful, while the other barely acknowledged us. The guest information binder was falling apart, with pages torn and coming loose. The units need a lot of attention: the door handle was coming off, the doors didn't seal properly, the shower grout was filthy, and the bathroom basin was comically small and impractical. The TV was mounted in a very odd spot. It could be a nice place, but we weren't impressed.

The room was cleaned daily, the bedding was clean, and we enjoyed the coffee and tea, good WiFi, and a TV in each room. We left jewelry on the bedside table and it was still there after the room was serviced, which we're grateful for. The service was excellent and breakfast was delicious. We were in a room of four, and the experience was definitely five-star for us. There was only cold water in our room and no bathroom door. Some areas outside looked untidy, and I wish the surroundings had the same calm, clean feel as the rooms. Apart from that, I have no problem at all.

We only stayed one night while returning from our holiday in Gordon's Bay, and I wish we'd booked longer. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the place was. What a lovely spot.
