The Royal Fischer Hotel

A very good four star hotel, but not five star. It’s beautiful and priced at the top end. Breakfast really is five star, and supper is good if you’re staying overnight, though it doesn’t reach that level. The wine choice is small, with mostly average wines. Service is good, but again not five star. The beds weren’t turned down and there was no chocolate. The welcome snack in the room was average and wrapped in Gladwrap plastic. The fireplace was packed but unlit, with no match to light it, so perhaps it’s just for decor. For four stars, it’s very good.

We arrived late and were welcomed so graciously. They offered in-room dining and a glass of wine, both served perfectly, and the meal was delicious. In the morning, we woke to the view and birdsong, with a delicious latte brought to our room. Johannes made the stay even more special.

Elsie was absolutely wonderful from the moment I booked the venue for a client dinner. She went beyond what I expected, and I couldn’t have managed it without her. Our client was very happy, and we’d happily recommend the venue and look forward to doing business with them again. Thank you, Elsie.

The tranquil setting and decent food were about the only positives. The rooms were dusty, and the main dining area was revolting, old and shabby, with rotting animals on the wall. My bath leaked, the shower sprayed in every direction, and there were open cans in the minibar. At these prices, that’s completely unacceptable. They also have no place to work, despite advertising facilities for it. This was an unpleasant stay. I wouldn’t return or recommend it, and it’s a travesty for the place to present itself as a five star hotel.
