Capetonian Hotel

Dinner was the low point: it cost around R360 per person, drinks weren’t included, and even water had to be bought separately. I was also asked to pay while I was still eating, despite having offered to settle up when I arrived and being told I could pay afterwards. That felt uncomfortable and rude. Waiting until I’d finished would have been better. I stayed three nights at The Capetonian on a friend’s recommendation, mainly because the restaurant serves halal food. My room was clean and housekeeping came every day. Staff were generally polite, friendly, and halal-friendly. The food was okay, and breakfast was excellent for the roughly R140 price, with a good selection and drinks included. Aside from the way dinner billing was handled, the stay was good.

The food was tops, and the hotel has halal food throughout and spacious prayer facilities. My room was wow, housekeeping was on the ball, and room service was great. Even arriving close to midnight, I was greeted by a super courteous security guard and exemplary reception staff. The service was grand, and the hands-on manager was humble, experienced, and well mannered. Best hotel experience ever. Best regards.

The hotel is a few minutes from Waterfront, with easy access to the M5. All meals are fully halal, and there are Salaah facilities on the 3rd floor. Mogemat at reception was extremely helpful, and Anwar in the restaurant was friendly and helpful too. I’ll definitely come back when I’m in Cape Town. At busy times, the egg station gets crowded. They could expand that area and the meat section for preparing freshly grilled meat.

The website didn’t mention that a Ramadan event would be taking place on the evening we visited The Capetonian Restaurant. Knowing that beforehand would have helped us plan and set expectations, since it affected our dining experience. Clearer notice of special events would be useful. The buffet food was served cold and had no taste, making the meal unpleasant. Between the food and the lack of information, the visit was very disappointing.
