Colona Castle

The owners and staff made the weekend feel special with thoughtful service. There were chocolates on our pillows each night, the minibar had the drinks we’d requested, and they could arrange spa treatments or in-house dining. Breakfast came on crisp white linen with lovely crockery and cutlery, a welcome change from buffet food and takeaway coffee. I travel often for work and usually end up in conference hotels with rooms that all look alike. I wanted somewhere with character and a story, and Colona Castle, which I’d often seen against Muizenberg Mountain, looked just right after I checked the website. Nicole and Michael welcomed us warmly, balancing professionalism with openhearted hospitality. We stayed in the English Suite, one of the loveliest rooms I’ve experienced. It has creamy, luxurious decor, two bathrooms, and a Victorian tub beneath a silk drape in the open-plan bathroom. I loved that detail. The huge bed was incredibly comfortable, and the handsome rooms, double-height ceiling, selected furniture, tapestries and screens all gave the castle a splendid feel. The view from up high was remarkable: Cape Town below us, Table Mountain to the left, the Hottentots Hollands ahead, and False Bay’s coastline to the right. At night, the city lights had their own magic. We also spent time exploring False Bay, walking along Muizenberg beach, browsing Kalk Bay’s little shops, then driving to Scarborough and back through Simon’s Town. It was a wonderful weekend, and we’re grateful to Nicole and Michael for making it so memorable.

The owners and staff made it feel friendly and homely. It’s a real gem, with lovely views of the mountain, lake and surrounding area.

A perfect spot, with luxurious apartments and a kind, attentive host. Most places of interest are close by.
