Kiara Lodge

There’s a lot to do here for all ages, including yoga, bingo, tennis challenges, charades, kids pizza classes, gorge swings, hiking trails, paint classes, putt putt and more. The activities are well organised, and the staff are friendly. The bungalows are cleaned every day, and the amenities are very clean and well maintained. We’ll definitely be back.

The mountain air and quiet setting made it easy to unwind, and there are activities for different ages, even tennis courts. Kiara lodge sits in the Maluti mountains valley, so the views are breathtaking. Our self-catering unit was comfortable and had the home comforts we needed. Cleaners came each day to freshen it up and replace toiletries. The staff were reserved, but helpful.

The restaurant was really accommodating at breakfast. I don't eat beef or pork, so they adjusted the included breakfast to suit me. My husband and I stayed three nights, with mountains right across from our room, and the staff were friendly. The rooms were tidy and cleaned daily, and the meals were yummy. We also took the complimentary five-minute foot or hand massage, which is worth trying. There's plenty to do nearby: we went mountain climbing, Clarens is just down the road, and the lodge has activities of its own. A definite must-visit.

The drive over was peaceful, with lovely scenery, and the kids had a great time, especially in the indoor heated pool, which stays open quite late. The one letdown was the spa: there's no game room or child minder there, so parents with young kids they can't leave alone can't enjoy a treatment.
