Once you've paid, it feels like they leave you to fend for yourself. The security guard seems unsure whether he's working or at home, so you just have to hope he'll open the gate. Getting to the room means walking through a kitchen that smells, and the place itself has a filthy odor. It doesn't deserve a star. I'd tell people not to bother staying here.

We arrived in the morning, but there was nobody at reception and our calls went unanswered. We had to look for somewhere else to stay. We later came back after a guest said the owner had gone into town and locked up the guesthouse.

The garden is really picturesque, and there's fairly secure off-street parking. Staff were friendly and always willing to help. The rooms are simple and clean, with some rather imaginative bathroom and toilet layouts.

From outside, it looks nice, but my stay was the worst. The kettle didn't work, the blanket was really dirty, and although the bedding was clean, the pillows were brown with dirt. I was uncomfortable the whole time. In the morning there was no hot water, so I had to use the bathroom next door because of a plumbing issue. This place doesn't seem to consider sober guests, so I'd only recommend it if you're a drunkard. I'm really unimpressed. I feel the good reviews are just from the owner's friends trying to boost the profile. Credit where it's due, but not for lapeng village.
