Les Chambres Guesthouse Franschhoek

The gardens and rooms at Les Chambres were gorgeous, and breakfast each morning was both delicious and lovely to look at. There are only a few rooms, so the pool has a cosy feel and it's easy to meet other guests if you want to. Peter helped us put together a perfect day of wine tasting, and the whole staff looked after us so well. My wife and I felt welcomed by Peter and Bradley like family for those few days in wine country. As a LGBT couple travelling abroad, that meant a lot to us. We already can't wait to come back. Do yourselves a favour and stay at Les Chambres!

Even though Les Chambres is only two blocks from the centre, all we heard was birds and quiet. We spent five nights there and hated having to say goodbye. Peter and his staff made everyone feel welcome and took great care to keep us comfortable. It's a stunning seven-bedroom guesthouse, with lush gardens, beautiful dining and guest areas, and fantastic paintings, some painted by host Peter. The attention to detail throughout is tremendous. Four days after my stay, the owner messaged me because I'd left an honest review on booking.com about the room's problems. He called me an “unseasoned traveller” who apparently only stays in “backpackers”. That response felt nasty and showed he couldn't take criticism. The room had a broken aircon, so I spent a freezing night; the bathroom smelled mouldy, and a noisy geyser in the neighbouring room disturbed my sleep. The owner seemed friendly at first, though a bit invasive of personal space and overly pompous. The place needs a revamp. I wouldn't recommend it.

The breakfast was incredible, such a lot of delicious food, and we loved spending time by the pool. I only wish we'd booked several more nights. We felt so cared for at Les Chambres, from Peter's warm welcome after parking on site to the little treats in our room, including bubbles, candy and milk for coffee. Our room was even prettier than the photo, spacious, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully equipped. The bathroom had plenty of room for both of us to get ready together. Everything felt perfect, and I can't think of a thing to improve.
