We stayed at the Road Lodge in November and again in FEBRUARY. Both times we had excellent service. From making our bookings when we arrived to checking out on Sunday, Lorato and her team were friendly throughout. The rooms were neat and clean, and the bathrooms just as clean. Breakfast was very, very nice. Lorato, thank you for your sense of humour, and keep being the friendly person you are.

I called to check whether a room was available for me and my hubby, and Lerato kindly assured us there was one. When we arrived, booking was quick and smooth. The staff and surroundings were very clean, and everyone was respectful. We had a great stay and a lovely breakfast. I'd recommend this place to anyone. It lives up to its advert.

Sthandiwe, the security guide at Road Lodge East London, made our evening with his joyful work, smile, and warm welcome. It was infectious. When that warmth is genuine, people feel it and share it. Road Lodge East London is better for having someone of his calibre. Kudos to him and to the organization.

The restaurant service wasn't great, with waiters who seemed uninterested. Steers is not far away. At night, if you want to smoke, you have to stand outside in front of the hotel instead of using the smoking area, because they lock one door after 10am. Here's a photo of the grass area in front of the hotel where you're meant to smoke. Visited 10 Nov 2025.

The staff made so much noise cleaning in the morning that they woke me up. The stay didn't meet my expectations, especially since the price is about the same as much better hotels in East London. Breakfast wasn't up to scratch, and the old aircon kept needing me to press a reset button. There was no bottled water in the room, and the TV used an "aerial" connection that made it hard to see what I was watching. I don't see myself coming back.
