My family and I went on holiday on the 27th of December and booked 8 Days at Valley Guest House in port Elizabeth. Early in the morning on the 3rd of January 2026, around 2 or 3 while we were asleep, thieves came in through the toilet window. They took 2 of my cell phones, my mother's phone, my brother's phone, and my handbag with money, credit cards and our ID books inside. They entered only our room, not the other guests' rooms. The cops came in the morning to take our statements. We checked out on 4th, and received the case number on Monday. I feel the guest house should refund us because this happened at their house. I usually book all my reservations on booking.com, and I've never experienced anything like this in my life. Your response would be highly appreciated. Kind regards, Peggy

This was our second overnight stay with John and Marilyn, and they came through for us again. After my minor operation at the day hospital, the peace and quiet was just what we needed. Valley Guest House is perfectly placed for Life St George's Hospital, which is why I needed to stay nearby. The room was clean and spacious, with everything we needed: an en-suite bathroom, towels, soaps, shampoo, conditioner and sanitiser, plus a fridge, TV and an AMAZINGLY comfortable bed. There was tea and coffee, and we could use crockery, cutlery and condiments when we decided to have a small meal in the room. We had to leave very early, but Marilyn was up with her big smile and chatty personality to see us off. Friends recommended the guest house to us, and we've recommended it to other friends in turn. We'll DEFINITELY book here again.

The owners were very friendly, breakfast was enjoyable and the area was quiet. The room had a few issues, though. It was a basement-type room with a wooden floor, so every footstep in the lounge above could be heard. It wasn't well aerated and had a slightly mouldy smell, so the owners should make sure it gets ventilated. The linen was clean and crisp, but the bed was concave. The owners and the area had their charm, but because of the room problems, I'm unlikely to stay here again.

The place was really neat, and the people I met were some of the kindest I’ve come across. A great spot for an overnight stay. I’d recommend this B&B to lots of tourists, so book before you miss out.

The Harris family made me feel looked after and completely at home. The owners are friendly and helpful, and it feels like a home away from home. Whether you’re travelling for work or pleasure, it’s a comfortable place to be yourself.
