Villa Eika

The unit was spotless, and we really liked the pool and braai area. The kitchen had all the essentials, though a bigger fridge would've been better. It wasn't really baby friendly, but we made do. Being quite close to the Elgin market was a bonus. A great stay overall.

The room was tidy and clean, the location was good, and the hostess was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our self-catering unit and the service was great. The one issue was that the site didn't say some rooms don't have pool access. Our friends in a separate room had to use our back door to get to and from the pool, which was a bit inconvenient.

I've stayed in some really bad places, but usually as long as the shower works, you're okay. This one had one of the worst showers I've used. I'm a big guy, and had to keep jumping around to catch a drop. The normal tiles were so slippery that I couldn't move much. The basin was clogged, and nothing was done even after I reported it. The only good thing about this place is the photos.

We barely spent time at the accommodation, since we were at an event in Grabouw all weekend and only used the villa to sleep and freshen up, but even that short time was unpleasant. We booked the whole Villa Eike for privacy and our own space, but house manager Debbie Downer was unfriendly from the moment we arrived and made us feel watched. She was recording us, and thought we wouldn't notice. At 3pm she told us we were too noisy, even though we had the whole villa and wanted to enjoy our time without disturbances. Whenever we left, Debbie went into the rooms, so there was no privacy. She treated a group of 30 year old adults like kids and made it clear we weren't welcome, as if we were staying for free. After 8am she came by angrily hosing down the outside tiles, then moved our bathers and clothes into a corner where they got soaked. She also took away the umbrellas in a hostile way while my friends were sitting under them for shade, making snarky comments that she needed to leave, despite our prior late checkout arrangement with the owner. Her cat vomited in one of the apartments, and she never acknowledged it. I only read the reviews afterwards, and saw Debbie seems to be the main source of low ratings for Villa Eike. Very unfortunate. People asked for the accommodation name after seeing our videos of the house on social media, but after this experience, we won't recommend it.
