Cosmo the Jack Russell completely won me over, what a sweetie. The guest house is well placed for Haenertsburg’s shops and restaurants, and the arboretum view from the front is lovely. Matt greeted us warmly and was happy to help with anything. Our room was spotless and lovely, with French windows opening onto a deck for a cuppa, a simple breakfast or a drink.

Even with the mid-winter temperature down to 1°C, we didn’t feel cold. The room had good heating and plenty of warm bedding. At the Art Gallery Guesthouse in Haenertsburg, the thoughtful touches included sherry, coffee and chocolates, plus fresh, clean towels and tasteful décor. We had a wonderful stay and thought it was excellent value for money. It was a perfect stop on our way to the Kruger National Park, and I’d highly recommend it. Tania de Jager

The room was clean and tidy, with the amenities we needed for two, and our host made us feel very welcome. Fresh flowers from the garden, sherry and chocolates were a lovely touch. There’s a fridge, kettle and breakfast items, though space for packing things away is limited, so we’d suggest adding a kitchenette. We’ll definitely come back to stay in this special town.

We booked a night here while in Haenertsburg for an overnight event. The location, in a beautiful little village community that felt safe, was lovely. Matthew was a great, accommodating owner, and the small extras made a difference: sherry in the room, chocolate by the bedside, cold water and milk in the fridge. I’d happily visit again.
