Hermanus Dorpshuys

The hosts are so helpful, and the service is amazing. Our room and en suite were clean and roomy, and everything felt peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was fantastic, with homemade butter, marmalade, and breads. A really lovely spot for a restorative getaway.

The English-style breakfast was very good, and even came with stylish white butler gloves. The atmosphere is cosy and familiar, and we can highly recommend this accommodation. PS: Sorry we took the key with us. It’s on its way back.

I woke up feeling good after a decent night’s sleep, then got reprimanded by the hostess. At 7:03, I phoned reception to ask for an iron to press my shirt. I didn’t know the phone rang throughout the whole house and would disturb everyone. I was shouted at and told I should have known. How insensitive of me, apparently. It upset my day and made the place feel like an institution. If they offer 24-hour service, how are guests meant to get help overnight or early in the morning if not by phone? The hostess’s version is that no one shouted and that I was upset because I was told my call woke everyone. I say I asked for an ironing board and was told I’d disturbed the house, then she walked away upset. That’s the truth. Call me dramatic, but I call it bad service.

We’ve stayed at Dorpshuys before and loved it, and we’ll definitely go back. The accommodation is wonderful, with comfortable beds, exceptional hosts, and a divine breakfast.
