Saskia was easy to reach through the dedicated WhatsApp line, which was especially useful for us as foreign travellers. Her small office and shuttle service are about a five minute walk into town. We stayed in apartment 301, on the right corner of the third floor facing the sea. The position is spectacular, with a view across the whole bay and around to the right. I’d argue it’s better than the centre apartments. The area nearby felt really safe, and all the gates and security in the apartment helped us feel secure, especially being on the top floor. It feels like a well looked after holiday home, with everything you need. The apartment is massive, with two enormous bedrooms, lots of wardrobe and drawer space, ensuite bathrooms with his and her sinks, plus a third toilet and sink. There are plenty of sockets for charging things. The Wi-Fi was good, with a speed test showing 22mb upload and 18 upload speed. The kitchen has a washing machine, dishwasher, full size fridge freezer, Nespresso machine with pods for cappuccinos and lattes, and a traditional coffee percolator. There’s also a Smeg two slice toaster, a clear glass kettle, and a filtered drinking water tap beside the sink. Out the back, there’s a small barbecue/Braai balcony with a large outdoor sink and washing lines. In the living room there’s a wall mounted TV with surround sound speakers and a Yamaha stereo, as well as lots of books and DVDs. The TV has Disney Channel and probably Netflix too. Coffee shops, bars and restaurants in town generally have free Wi-Fi with decent speeds. I’d highly recommend staying here.

We had a sea view right from bed, and Walker Bay opened out in a 270 degree view from this spot above the old harbour. Shops and restaurants are an easy walk away, so we never needed the car, which was parked safely underground. It’s ideal for whale watching, and the place has everything for self catering, including wine glasses, great pots and even spices. We stayed two days, though it would suit a week or longer, and it was well priced. We’ll be back!

From here, you can watch whales and catch the sunrise in Hermanus. It’s a family friendly spot right in town, with the shops and restaurants all within walking distance.
