The staff made our weekend special. They were friendly, knowledgeable, passionate, and always helpful. They even went the extra mile to arrange a special moment for my engagement to my fiance, and made us feel like royalty for the rest of the weekend. I’m incredibly grateful. The setting is something special, tucked against the mountains on a private farm and nature reserve. The gardens are lush, with trees that shelter them from the wind. One day the wind was pumping, but in the garden we only felt a pleasant breeze in the hot sun. Our suite was well appointed, with a rustic chic feel that wasn’t flashy or gaudy. The food was phenomenal, from brunch and tea to a four-course dinner. I’ve eaten at many fine dining places in Cape Town, and this was on par or better, with very generous portions. There’s a stunning boat house by the reservoir, kayaks for guests, nature reserve drives, a great pool and lawn seating, walks and mountain bike rides. We didn’t spot any fish eagles, though they are about. I highly recommend staying, and I hope to visit again soon.

A great farmhouse for a few nights near Cape Town. The team were extremely friendly, and everything worked. The rooms are rustic, but incredibly well kept for their age. And the food was to die for.

Heron House was probably the best equipped, high quality place we’ve enjoyed, with friendly staff there to take care of everything we needed. It has old-time splendour alongside all the modern amenities you could think of, and plenty of space for everyone. Our extended family, grandparents, parents and five grandsons, got to celebrate there for a weekend that felt far too short. The boys had open, flat farm roads for their bikes, saw sheep being shorn for the first time, and had room to play outside. It’s perfect for visits all year round and can easily fit up to ten adults.
