Maple Grove

The accommodation is clean and neat, tucked into the Forrest, and the morning and evening mist makes the setting feel even more atmospheric. Getting there is the challenge: the gravel access road is rough and bumpy, with lots of dongas. A regular car will struggle, so an SUV or bakkie is strongly recommended.

The host, Lindsay Walker, was warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed our stay. The cottages are beautiful in the forest, with the feel of a proper forest retreat. There’s also a huge, lovely garden for walks and hikes.

When we arrived on 12/08/24, our host Lyndsay was waiting for us. It was already dark and we had nothing to eat, so she kindly gave us food and milk to tide us over until morning. She made sure we were comfortable before saying good night. The setting is stunning, and we loved both the accommodation and Hogsback and its people. The unit had electric blankets, wall mounted heaters, another electric wall mounted heater in the bathroom, a well stocked indoor fireplace, and a braai facility outside. It was equipped with the utensils, crockery and cutlery we needed, plus a welcome bottle of port/sherry in a decanter. We’re already missing it all. We’ll definitely recommend Maple Grove and visit again.

The property and its surroundings are beautiful, with trees, flowers, birds, and real peace and quiet. The hosts are helpful and clearly experienced in hospitality, and the facilities are plentiful, down to all the little details being thought through. We also loved the three little dogs on the property, who came by every day to make sure we were comfortable. I’d recommend Maple Grove to anyone.
