My friends messaged me early the next morning asking when I’d come back, and it turned out they couldn’t stay there any longer. The night before, the housewife had gone to their room again and sent them out to another room because they were talking to each other. Yoh, Lord have mercy. I’d booked for two people who were visiting South Africa for the first time. I needed a large room with a bathroom, but agreed with the man of the house that we’d use a big room without a bath and the bathroom next door. I also asked if I could come over for supper and spend some time with my friends, and whether we could play music. He said that was fine as long as it stopped by midnight. He was kind and did his best to accommodate us, and I’m grateful for that. Everything was smooth until my guests arrived around 9:30 pm, as arranged. At 10, while they were trying to relax and shower, the guesthouse called to say the lights had to be turned off, I had to leave, and my tired guests had to go to sleep, with no more music. We negotiated half an hour more and agreed on that, but before 10:30 the wife came into our room shouting without asking. Someone was coming out of the shower, not properly dressed, and she was ordering us to be asleep already. We didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I couldn’t understand it, but I left because I didn’t want a fight or to spoil my friends’ evening. I’m trying to believe they meant well, especially since they worked with preschool kids. But for a guesthouse for adults, this is far too much and beyond imagination. I’m sorry to write this, especially about the gentleman, who tried to be kind and understanding, but his wife... no comment. I feel sorry for her and for anyone who has to deal with her. This place should be closed forever if there’s any justice.

The hosts were friendly and helpful, and made the place feel like a home away from home. The bedroom and bathroom were clean, and for the price it’s good accommodation. Don’t expect luxury. If you need an affordable, comfortable place near Gold Reef City, this is it.

The street was quiet and clean, and seemed safe, which I wasn’t sure about at first. The gentleman who owned the house was really nice.

I feel sorry for the housewife and anyone who has to deal with her. She’s very rude. Staying there just isn’t worth it.
