The staff were friendly and accommodating, but that couldn’t make up for the many problems. The reception area on the ground floor smelled funny, and the corridors had a damp carpet smell. The receptionists weren’t very informative, so I had to work out for myself where the dining hall was and when meals were served. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the covers were so small they seemed suited to a five-year-old. The elevator broke on two of my three days there. On the second day it left my colleague stuck inside, while we were already running late. For what we paid, breakfast was really poor: no variety and nothing appetising. In room 808, the shower floor tiles were cracked, so you had to be careful not to get hurt.

The location was very good, and the rooftop had spectacular views. They also arranged a great walking tour of the city centre; we felt safe the whole time and learned a lot about the area. Most of all, the staff were thoughtful about my celiac disease. A huge thanks to everyone, especially the chef, who made sure I had excellent gluten-free meals. I had a great stay in Johannesburg and recommend it.

The room was lovely, with a beautiful shower and bath and a clean bed. The staff were amazing, always friendly and helpful, and the food was very good. Well done to the chef. The carpets had an unpleasant smell, which management should address. Getting into the parking area was difficult because it’s narrow, and you could be in trouble if you’re not a good driver.

The rooftop bar was welcoming, well run and comfortable, and my room was cosy, warm and clean. The food was tasty, affordable and nicely presented. The staff were warm, friendly and accommodating, and there were too many great people to single out. They always went the extra mile. For improvements, I’d like more variety on the rooftop bar food menu and better TV channels in the rooms. What an experience, thanks so much. See you soon!

Great food, clean and cosy rooms, and charismatic people with great service. For me, this is the best hotel in central Johannesburg. Gustav, the owner, is someone you really should meet. 5/5.
