It's a lekker visit, especially for budget-conscious travellers looking to experience the former diamond capital's glory. This is an exquisite old Kimberley home beside the famous Kimberley Mine, the Big Hole, and the mine museum. The place is clean and welcoming, with friendly hosts, a pet-friendly policy, and safe off-street parking. The neighbourhood is a bit run down, but don't let that put you off.

Crizelda, our host, is world-class. We had a few requests and she made them happen, and the beds were comfortable with clean bedding. The room was spacious, the bathroom clean, and the water hot for a nice shower. Tucker House has everything you need, including a TV in every room, air conditioning, a fireplace, and a fridge. It seemed like a quaint little place with a lot of history, and the welcome was warm and the staff friendly. But the basics didn't work. After six hours and 700 km in a bakkie, there was no hot water for a shower or bath. The room's aircon didn't work in the sweltering heat, and the TV had just one channel, SABC2, which I don't care for. There was no Wi-Fi either. It was only the first night, but first impressions last. The owner was friendly and accommodating, which makes the state of the facilities a pity.
