The game drives were a real highlight, with lots to see, including the Big Five. We had a wonderful four-night stay and were so impressed with the service. After twelve meals over four days, we couldn't find a single fault. Everything was made fresh on site and beautifully presented. Highly recommend!

The management and restaurant team were real gems, and they kept the holiday from becoming a complete flop. The room was literally falling apart, and the bathroom wasn't clean when we arrived or properly cleaned during the stay. Our first game drive was possibly the worst of my life. The driver, who wasn't a guide, sped around chatting on the radio without speaking to us. The manager put things right the following day, and after that the experience improved a lot. But the safari is the main point of a trip like this, and it was such a letdown that I still have to give it two stars.

We loved the peaceful, welcoming feel of the lodge, from the reception and lounge to the patio and pool. The tents were luxurious, beautifully decorated, and clearly well cared for. Everyone we met was warm and helpful, and the staff worked together so naturally. Gomo, Emmanuel, Peter, and Jomo were especially kind and thoughtful with guests. The game drives were wonderful. Our ranger, Vincent, went above and beyond to help us see as many animals as possible, with some beautiful and unusual sightings. The food was comforting, full of flavour, and served in generous portions. Breakfast was lovely, and the homemade granola was the best I've ever had. We've already started planning another visit, and we're telling our friends and family to come as soon as they can.

The watering hole was lovely, and breakfast by the pool with zebras and other animals nearby was such a peaceful way to start the day. We also really enjoyed our permanent tented room, especially the balcony, big bath, and huge king bed. Winter nights and mornings get very cold. The heated blankets and heater over the bed helped, but getting up was still hard. Tiamu was an incredible guide, always cheerful and keen to find us great sightings. We saw four of the Big Five, though no leopard. The food was pretty good and everyone was friendly. The lodge is among the more affordable options in Madikwe, so it isn't as high-end as many others, but it costs about 30% as much and felt like excellent value. All meals and two daily game drives were included, though drinks weren't. We loved our stay.

The tents were spacious and clean, with balconies where we could watch for wildlife by the river or see monkey families. The main lodge and pool were just as pleasant, and the food was excellent, with the kitchen happy to cater to individual requests. My wife and I spent three nights at Thakadu River Camp on our first safari. Everyone, from the manager to the gardener and night guard, was attentive and extremely friendly. The rangers made the drives exciting, especially our guide Percy. Madikwe's varied landscapes and the animals we saw, including four of the Big Five, made for a great adventure. It may not be as luxurious as some other lodges, but it offered an authentic bush experience with people who truly care about their guests. A great fit if you're after a bit of adventure.
