Barry, our safari guide and driver, was welcoming, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun to travel with. The vehicles were comfortable, and we liked stopping for coffee in the morning and drinks in the afternoon. We saw plenty on the drives. My wife and I started our honeymoon at Motswiri, and the property was beautiful. From our cabin we had a great view of the waterhole, where elephants, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, and more came by. The staff were also very accommodating when a cancelled flight caused scheduling problems. The food and drinks were good. Our first-night South African braai was a fun introduction to local culture and cuisine, and we enjoyed the other dinners and chatting with fellow travellers. The staff went above and beyond to make the trip memorable. If we return to South Africa, we'll come back here.

The waterhole is busy almost all the time, and my birthday at Motswiri was something special. It's a great lodge for connecting with the wildlife and nature of Madikwe Reserve. I'd rate the management, staff, guides, food, and accommodation highly across the board. Thanks, Motswiri x x. Hopefully our photos and videos will show up @kenstravels by the end of June '26.

The private feel is the main appeal here. The rooms make it seem like you've got your own lodge, and although the waterhole is small, you can get quite close to the animals that visit. The pool is nicely situated and a good place to spend time. The food was good, though for the price I expected more. Portions are small, which works well on safari, but if you don't like one course you might leave hungry. With all the trees and bushes, flies get into most meals. Other lodges we've visited did a better job keeping flies and bugs away from breakfast and dinner. We had a good stay, but were swayed by reviews that may have been too positive. We've had a slightly better experience elsewhere in Madikwe, so it's worth considering what suits you best.

We made memories to last a lifetime here. The kids, aged 5-15, loved it as much as we did, and we saw loads of animals while learning so much from the guides about them. The whole team made the stay wonderful, with special efforts that we really appreciated. Bill and Eliott, the guides, the kitchen and waiting staff, and Kia, the new girl, all did an incredible job. The room made our stay especially memorable: it was beautifully designed, with a bath facing outdoors and a view over the waterhole where elephants and zebras came to drink. The food was delicious with lots of good choices each day, and Tchibo, Stone, and everyone else were friendly and welcoming. My wife and I had a unique stay at Motswiri Private Safari Lodge from beginning to end. Our ranger Elliott was patient, passionate, and full of knowledge about the wildlife, surroundings, and ecosystem. Each drive was fascinating, and we were lucky enough to see all of the Big Five. Highly recommend for a memorable safari!
