From the balcony we saw wildebeest, plenty of buck, giraffes, bush babies and countless birds. At night, we heard lions roaring in the adjacent Lionspruit park while we braai-ed under the stars. It was a perfect base for exploring southern Kruger. My husband, our kids aged 9 and 18, and I had an amazing five days in Lion Tree Lodge. The house had everything we needed and more, in a beautiful, quiet cul-de-sac. We'd definitely return.

The scenery was pleasant, and the pool was a real help for cooling off. But the cabin was extremely hot, with no air conditioning, and sleeping through those hot nights was brutally uncomfortable. We got very little toilet paper and dish liquid, there was no clothes horse for wet things and no washing machine for longer stays. For over R3000 a day, I expected more luxury. It was very basic for the price.

I loved the beautiful bushland setting beside a game park, and spotted a giraffe nearby in the morning. The shower was a bit tricky to use.

The scenery is beautiful, and there was plenty of room. Staying in an elevated house on stilts can feel a bit unstable at times, but it was an awesome experience.
