A restored Manor house that’s stunning, in a beautiful, authentic setting that really inspires you. Kim, Anton, and the family are incredible hosts. There’s local wine, horses, a swimming pool and swimming hole, their refreshing home brew, and plenty of sunshine. The dinner service each evening is personal and delicious, and I highly recommend it. A special shout out to resident dogs Joey, Tiny, Karl, and Josef. Such a hidden gem!

My wife and I spent four days here for our honeymoon, and it wasn’t nearly enough. The rooms are brand new but still rustic, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Kim has done an amazing job bringing the property back to the way it’s supposed to be. Kim and her husband took wonderful care of us, from breakfast and dinner to recommendations around the area and making reservations at vineyards and restaurants. The family of dogs made our stay even better. They took us on long walks through the fields and near the dam or river, and even herded the horses for us. That was an incredible experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay in the Winelands, and we’ll celebrate our honeymoon 2.0 here as soon as we have enough time.

The rooms and gardens are lovely, and the farm style atmosphere with cats and dogs wandering around is great. But the rooms could use a few more small touches, like a dustbin and a shower caddy. My main concern was how close the dogs were to the food. That might not work for someone with allergies or anyone who’d rather not have a great dane sniffing their croissant.

I’ve never felt so at home on a holiday. The views and food were great, and it had everything needed for a perfect stay. I’d recommend Mountain Shaddows as a venue and for holiday or overnight accommodation. Well done, Kim, Anton, and kids!

The chef deserves a special mention. His food is spectacular, and this place is such a fantastic spot to rest and recharge.
